Volleyball: IU East at Shawnee State Match Stopped After Two Sets

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - The lights went out early thanks to what was left of Hurricane Helene making its way to Ohio causing a power outage.

The result was the Indiana University East volleyball team's River States Conference match with Shawnee State University lasted just two sets as the Red Wolves led 25-22, 25-19 on Friday, Sept. 27.

A date for the resumption of the contest has not been determined, but Shawnee State is scheduled to play IU East on Lingle Court on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Teah Barrett Matthews was leading the Red Wolves with seven kills, while Reece Shirley and Payton Schultheis added six each.

Shirley and Aislyn Hogan both had 13 assists. Hogan also had three aces and Ella Bickel had nine digs.

Down 19-17 in the in the opener, IU East responded to tie it a 20-20 before scoring the final three points with the last two coming on aces by Hogan.

In the second set, IU East led 6-5 before scoring five straight points to gain an edge the Red Wolves would hold the rest of the way against the Bears (6-6, 0-1).

IU East (12-7, 1-2) is scheduled to play at Alice Lloyd College (4-11, 0-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Eagles lost to WVU Tech 29-27, 25-10, 25-12 at home on Friday night.
