UPLAND, Ind. - The IU East women's volleyball team swept Day 2 of the tournament hosted by Taylor on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The Red Wolves defeated IU South Bend in straight sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-19) before winning in five against the host Trojans (25-21, 15-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7).
Reece Shirley led the Red Wolves in the first game with eight kills. She also had 23 assists and seven digs. Amyra Lockett had seven and Tia Cooper had six. IU East held South Bend to just 18 kills in the three sets, good for a -.143 hitting percentage. The Red Wolves doubled the hitting percentage of Titans.
In the match against Taylor, Jessica Swimm led with 17 kills and tallied 12 digs. Phillips was next with 14. She teamed up with Teah Barrett Matthews with five block assists.
The Red Wolves finish the tournament with a record of 3-1 and improve their overall record to 9-3.
IU East will travel to IU Kokomo on Friday to take on Campbellsville and Cumberlands before hosting IU South Bend in the home-opener on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. on Lingle Court.
