UPLAND, Ind. – The IU East women's volleyball team split the two games in the first day of the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial Tournament hosted by Taylor.
The Red Wolves defeated Olivet Nazarene 3-0 before dropping to Huntington 3-2 to close out the day.
In the first game, Jessica Swimm led the team with 10 kills. Reece Shirley and Sheridan Phillips were next with nine.
IU East saved their best hitting for the third set. The Red Wolves had 16 kills and only five errors. Shirley gave them the lead for the first time in the set at 10-9 with a service ace. Both teams would battle and trade points. Olivet tied the set at 19-19 before the Red Wolves scored the last six points of the set for the win.
In the second, the Red Wolves took two of the first three sets. But the Foresters were able to complete the comeback. IU East made a late 5-0 run in the third set to tie the set 23-23. Huntington would later score the next two points.
In the fifth set, the Red Wolves held early leads of 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3. But unfortunately, they wouldn't lead again after that as Huntington either was able to keep the score tied or held small leads. They ended up taking the fifth 15-11.
