FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's volleyball team spilt a pair of matches to finish the Onset Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 24.
IU East started its day in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum with an early morning 13-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Xavier University of Louisiana. The Red Wolves ended the event with a 25-18, 27-29, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12 loss to Marian University.
The Red Wolves are now 6-2, while Xavier was 1-2 after the opening contest with Marian now at 5-1.
Sheridan Phillips topped IU East with 15 kills against Xavier. Reece Shirley led the Red Wolves with 31 assists as she added 12 kills and a dozen digs.
Jessica Swimm finished with 12 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Aislyn Hogan contributed 12 assists. Teah Barrett Matthews led the way with 12 blocks including four solo stops. Ella Bickel had 13 digs.
In the Marian match, Swimm finished with 26 kills and 13 digs, while Amyra Lockett added 11 kills.
Shirley had 41 assists and 21 digs. Hogan had 12 assists. Bickel led IU East with 26 digs as Barrett Matthews had six blocks.
Next up for the Red Wolves is the Amber McClure Fayerweather Memorial at Taylor University on Aug. 30-31. IU East will play Olivet Nazarene University, Huntington University, IU South Bend and the host Trojans.
