Red Wolves Hold Off Oakland City for 12th Straight Win

RICHMOND, Ind. – It took four sets but the IU East women's volleyball team defeated Oakland City on Saturday for their 12th win in a row.

The Red Wolves won 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12 to improve to 21-6 on the season and 13-1 in the RSC.

Jessica Swimm led all players with 25 kills and had 11 assists. Brooke Lepper was also in double figures with 11 kills. She led the team with 19 digs along with Reece Shirley who had 57 assists with her 19 digs.

The Mighty Oaks broke up a string of four 3-0 wins from the Red Wolves. In the third set, IU East held a lead until Oakland City went on a 4-0 run to grab a 13-10 lead. The Mighty Oaks would lead the rest of the set but the Red Wolves tried to claw back and win for the sweep. The Red Wolves did tie the set at 19-19 after a 3-0 run for themselves. Swimm and Lepper both had kills in the small run. But the Might Oaks held on for the 25-23 set win.

IU East came out in the fourth set with no intentions of having the game go to a fifth set. They started off with a 5-0 run and led 17-10 late in the set. Shirley, Swimm, and Barrett Matthews tallied kills late in the fourth to secure the win after a 4-0 run sealed the deal.

IU East will travel to Ohio Christian on Tuesday before hosting WVU Tech and Point Park on Friday and Saturday.
