RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU East women's volleyball team grabbed a pair of wins on Saturday in a tri-match between Brescia and the University of Northwestern Ohio.

The Red Wolves swept the Bearcats 3-0 before beating the Racers 3-1.

The wins improve the Red Wolves to 16-6 on the year and 8-1 in RSC play.

Peyton Schultheis led the team with nine kills on 17 attempts. Loretta Pelkington and Adayna Key both had six kills apiece. Reece Shirley led with 25 assists but Lauren Uhte saw some playing time and they made the most of it with nine assists.

The only time the Red Wolves trailed in the match against Brescia was the first point in the third set. After that, IU East grabbed the lead and made it a quick sweep. Pelkington had the last two points for the Red Wolves.

Against the Racers, the Red Wolves faced a tougher test. They ended up defeating UNOH, but the Racers kept the sets close. After winning the first set, 25-19, the Racers stormed out to an 11-2 lead, causing a timeout from head coach Kim McConaha. UNOH would lead 15-6 before the Red Wolves attempted their comeback bid. They used a 5-0 run and a 9-4 run to trail by just a point. The Red Wolves even held a brief 23-22 lead before UNOH scored the last three points to tie the game 1-1.

The Racers kept their momentum going in the third set starting off with a 6-3 lead. IU East would grab a 12-11 lead after the 9-5 run and then broke open the third set, with a 17-12 lead. A Jessica Swimm kill and an attacking error from the Racers gave the Red Wolves a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, the two teams traded leads. With the score tied 7-7, IU East went on a 6-1 run for the 13-8 lead. They iced the game with another 5-0 run, leading 20-12 late in the game. The Red Wolves capped it off with a Teah Barrett Matthews kill.

Swimm led with 16 kills. Barrett Matthews also had double-figure kills with 13. Shirley tallied 43 assists and Ella Bickel had 20 digs.
