Red Wolves Blank Alice Lloyd
PIPPA PASSES, K.Y. – Loretta Pelkington had nine kills and Tia Cooper had eight as the IU East Red Wolves defeated Alice Lloyd in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14, 25-10, Saturday.
The win gives the Red Wolves their fourth win in a row and improving to 13-6 on the season and 6-1 in RSC play.
In the first set, the Red Wolves found themselves down 6-4 in the early going. They then rattled off an 11-0 run to take the commanding 15-6 lead. Adayna Key, Pelkington, and Jessica Swimm all had kills down the stretch to capture the set win.
Alice Lloyd led early again in set 2 but the Red Wolves went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. The Eagles closed the deficit to two, as the Red Wolves led 13-11. IUE then went on two 4-0 runs later in the set to take a comfortable lead. Cooper and an attack error from the Eagles gave the Red Wolves a 2-0 set lead.
Set three was very much the same as the other sets. Trailing 2-1, the Red Wolves went on an 8-0 run. Emily Baker and Pelkington tallied the final two points for the Red Wolves for the win.
For back-to-back games, the Red Wolves held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage. The Eagles were held in check to the tune of a -.068 percentage.
The Red Wolves will host Rio Grande on Tuesday on Lingle Court.
