Women's Volleyball Sweeps Day 1 of IU Kokomo Invite

KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU East women's volleyball team kept it rolling in the early part of their season.

The Red Wolves swept two teams who are receiving votes in the preseason poll, Saint Xavier and Campbellsville Friday in the first day of the IU Kokomo Invite.

"We got the job done today with two wins," assistant coach Cali Topolski said. "We followed the game plans well and had a lot of fun doing it. We still have two huge games tomorrow to get through before we celebrate too much."

Jessica Swimm carried over her performance from the season opener with 15 kills in Game 1 before another 10 kills in Game 2. Reece Shirley averaged 38 assists in the games and Ella Bickel added 35 digs in the two games.

The Red Wolves play Mount Vernon Nazarene and Bethel on Saturday. The Pilots are receiving votes as well. With a win, the Red Wolves would have won four of the first five games against ranked opponents.

"The games were absolutely electric," student assistant coach Chance Bentley said. "It's really fun to see everyone out there competing for one common goal. This team is one of the only teams I know of that literally everyone can work together and get along and have the most fun you can have on a court. It's so awesome to see that and I am very excited to see where this team can go."

The Red Wolves will start off against Mount Vernon Nazarene at 12 p.m.
