Outdoor Track: Indiana Tech Open Recap

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana University East track and field teams competed at the Indiana Tech Opener on Friday, April 4.

Emily Fleming won the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:58.96, which was just off her IU East school record of 4:57.64.

Eleanor Hasenour was the only competitor women's race walk as she posted a time of 29:51.31, which is a NAIA "B" National Qualifying Standard.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Julia Smith was fifth with a time of 1:09.25, which puts her in second on the IU East all-time list for that event. Kendra Shipman finished seventh with a 1:13.49 and that time is third best all time for the Red Wolves.

Vanessa Temple ran a personal best of 27.21 seconds in the 200-meter dash as she was fifth.

On the men's side, Mylan Nocton won the men's 5,000 in 15:30.28. Next was Axton Fosnaugh in second with a 15:39.48, while Gabe Reynolds was fifth in 16:07.63.

Cameron Nocton was second in the men's 1,500 and he was followed by Teagen Rodriguez in third at 4:13.22 with Akot Tong coming in fourth with a 4:18.15. Gavin Ashby was seventh in the race with a 4:22.12.

Owen Beachler completed the men's 400-meter hurdles in 57.92 to take second. Parker Sweet was second in the men's 110-hurdles with Jackson Marker finishing fifth in 17.48

The men's 400-meter relay squad of Miguel Mendez Jr., AJ Ludwig, Parker Sweet and Evan Manix combined to become the fourth fastest group in school history with a time of 43.20 to finish fourth.

Kyler Shultz had his best performance of the season with a distance of 48.12 in the men's hammer. Sam Houck finished seventh with a 42.84.

There will be a few Red Wolves heading to Wilmington College for the JENNASTRONG Track & Field Invitational on Saturday, April 5. IU East will have runners in the women's 5,000 meters along with the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
