Women's Tennis Blanks Earlham in Season Opener
RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU East women's tennis team started off the season on a high note defeating crosstown foe Earlham 9-0 on Wednesday.
Linda Marino and Eva Caballero won at No. 1 Doubles 8-1 and Brooke Schafstall and Kerstin Ellis defeated Earlham's No. 3 Doubles team 8-1 as well. Amonette Theron and Laura Billing had a clean 8-0 doubles win for the Red Wolves as they went into singles play up 3-0 without being contested.
The toughest match the Red Wolves had all game was at No. 1 Singles. Marino won the first set 6-4 but dropped 4-6 in the second. Marino and Madison Cherry played a tiebreaking set instead of a full third set. Marino captured the victory winning 10-4.
Cabellero won her No. 2 Singles match 6-1, 6-3. Theron won her No. 3 Singles match 6-1, 6-0. Billing (6-0, 6-2), Alyssa Hollingsworth (6-0, 6-3), and Gracie Helms (6-0, 6-2) won their Singles 4-6 matches for the sweep.
The Red Wolves will travel to Ohio Northern University on Friday.
