Women's Soccer: IU East 4, Shawnee State 2
CENTERVILLE, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the River States Conference Championships with a 4-2 victory over Shawnee State University on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
An offensive explosion was the difference as the Red Wolves fell behind 2-0 early in the second period at Centerville High School.
Denise Davalos led the way for IU East as she tied a pair of school records with two goals and two assists. Her six points in the match equaled one standard that she shares with Dejhanna O'Bryant, Olivia Malott, Kimberly Trapp and Shelby O'Leary. The two assists for Davalos marks the 15th time that has happened for the Red Wolves. This season, Davalos has five goals and three assists for 13 points.
Mia Runyan scored at 55:22 with an assist from Davalos to make it 2-1. Davalos tied the match off a corner kick from Vanessa Temple with 59:23 on the clock.
Rylee Meyer gave the Red Wolves the lead at 75:52 with help from Davalos. Davalos sealed the victory with an unassisted goal at 83:43.
Kylie O'Leary had two saves in goal for the Red Wolves.
With the quarterfinal win, No. 3 seed IU East is now 6-8-4 as the Red Wolves move on with a visit to second seed the University of Rio Grande (8-6-3) on Saturday, Nov. 9. That match begins at 3:30 p.m. No. 6 Shawnee State falls to 3-9-4.
No. 4 WVU Tech (6-4-6) is at No. 1 Oakland City University (13-4) in the other semifinal affair on Saturday. WVU Tech beat IU Kokomo 3-0 on Wednesday. The RSC Championship match at highest remaining seed is Wednesday, Nov. 13.
