Women's Golf: Sanders Wins Playoff as Red Wolves Take Title

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team ended the fall season with a title and a spectacular moment at the Crimson Classic on Saturday, Oct. 12.

After the Red Wolves led the field with a team score of 325-324-649 to win the two-day event at the Wildcat Creek Golf Course, Liv Sanders earned the top individual honor on the first hole of a playoff.

"Everything went well today and I was able to get myself into the playoff," Sanders said. "As a competitive athlete that's exactly where I wanted to be."

Sanders (81-73-154) ended in a tie for first after 36 holes with Indiana Wesleyan University's Claire Dubois (79-75-154) and IU Kokomo's Hailey Stegemann (77-77-154).

"I got myself in the bunker off the tee, but was able to catch a piece of the green and sink a putt for the win," Sanders said of her final hole that was capped by a putt that was over 50 feet."

"I'm super proud of this team ending the season on a good note," Sanders continued. "Winning a tournament is something I've strived to do since I started playing college golf. God's timing is everything."

Trailing the Red Wolves on the team leaderboard were Indiana Wesleyan (332-320-652), host IU Kokomo (341-327-668) and the University of Olivet (367-372-739).

"Liv Sanders was spectacular once again," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "Her iron game was special all day and then for her to be the medalist in such a dramatic fashion was icing on the cake. I'm very proud of her and she deserved to win."

In addition to Sanders, Katie Craig also made the all-tournament team with an 80-83-163 to finish fifth.

"The team hung tough and got the job done today," Mullin said. "We have had a really good fall and we've got great momentum heading into the winter workout season."

The other scores for IU East were Lainey Jackson 82-83-165 (T6th), Sophia Curry 83-85-168 (10th), Jalyn Bruns 82-87-169 (11th), Ashlynne Osborne 89-90-179 (15th), Zoe Ogden 103-103-206 (23rd) and Aurora Biava 109-104-213 (24th).
