Women's Golf: Red Wolves Set Record at Stonehenge
WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team had a record-setting day as the Red Wolves finished third at the Battle at Stonehenge hosted by Grace College on Monday, Sept. 30.
After an opening round score of 323, the Red Wolves broke the fall team school record for 18-holes carding a 303 to finish with a total of 626.
"To shoot at a school record at Stonehenge is pretty cool," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "I was most pleased that we got stronger as the day went on playing a total of 36 holes today.
Grace won the six-team event (296-302-598), while was Bethel University was second (305-305-610).
Liv Sanders finished fourth on the individual leaderboard with a 73-75-148.
"My putter was on fire today with four birdies on my first nine holes," Sanders said. "I had a feeling it was going to be my day."
"Things flip-flopped on my second 18," Sanders continued. "My putting started to struggle, but my driver and irons kept me in good places. Overall, I'm super proud of this team and what we were able to get done with four scores in the 70s."
Sophia Curry was next for IU East as she was tied for ninth with an 82-73-155.
"I was very happy to post my collegiate best in the second round today," Curry said. "The course was a fun challenge, and I finally got some putts to drop. I'm also very proud to be part of a team that broke the school record."
The old mark of 304 was set in 2021 at the IU East Red Wolves Fall Invitational at Highland Lake.
"What a day we had on the golf course," Sanders said. "Two new personal bests for Sophia and me, while setting a new school record. I am proud of Sophia for fighting on her second round."
The other scores for the Red Wolves were Jalyn Bruns 81-76-157 (13th), Lainey Jackson 87-79-166 (20th), Katie Craig 87-80-167 (T21st), Ashlynne Osborne 88-87-175 (25th), Zoe Ogden 101-86-187 (T32nd) and Aurora Biava 101-93-194 (T35th).
"Liv Sanders was spectacular all day long," Mullin said. "Her iron game is really on point, and she rode a hot putter early in the day. Sophia played really strong today as well. It was good to see her make some putts and get rewarded for all the good shots she has been hitting lately."
"Jalyn Bruns was solid all day and played great in the second round," Mullin added. "I liked how Lainey and Katie both bounced back after struggling in the first round."
Sharifah Binyahya (76-69-145) of the University of Northwestern Ohio and Camille Short (72-73-145) of Grace shared the top spot as individuals.
The Red Wolves will complete their fall season in the IU Kokomo Tournament on Oct. 11-12.
