IU East Finishes Second at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team opened its fall season by finishing second in the Trine University Women's Kick-Off Classic on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Katie Craig and Lainey Jackson led the Red Wolves on the Zollner Golf Course as the duo made the all-tournament team.

The Red Wolves had a team score of 329 as Trine won the nine-school affair with a 320.

"It was an extremely hot and dry day," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "I like how our kids fought back, but our slow start was very costly. I was happy to see Katie and Lainey make the all-tournament team."

Craig was third on the leaderboard with an 80 behind Trine's Kayleigh Agugliaro was the medalist at 77 and her teammate Grace Dubec was second at 78.

"I played well today," Craig said. "My putting and driver kept me going today. I got off to a rough start but brought it back on the front shooting 37."

"I'm extremely proud of this team for pushing through and battling the conditions," Craig continued. "It was extremely hot and I'm excited to see what this team can do this year."

Jackson finished fourth at 82.

"I started on the back nine of the course and struggled to get my irons going," Jackson said. "I picked things up on the front nine and started hitting more greens."

"My short game helped me stay in it today," Jackson added. "As a team, I think we all put up competitive scores and all held up well against the heat. It was a tough day physically and mentally, so I am proud of us for making it through."

Others scoring for IU East were Jalyn Bruns (83, T7th), Sophia Curry (84, T11th), Liv Sanders (86, T18th) and Ashlynne Osborne (90, 29th).

Next up for the Red Wolves is the IU East Fall Invitational at Highland Lake Golf Course on Aug. 30-31.
