Red Wolves End Day in Second, Curry Leads SMWC Invite
TERRE Haute, Ind. – Sophia Curry ended the day shooting 3-over and tied for the lead after the first round of the St. Mary of the Woods Invitational on Friday.
"I had a really fun day of golf today," Curry said. "I had some trouble getting birdie putts to fall but had some great iron shots. I can't wait to get back out with the team tomorrow."
The team finished the day second of six. Lainey Jackson and Liv Sanders both shot an 83, good for eighth. Josalyn Lewis was next with an 84 and Brooklynn Cromwell fired an 85. Katie Craig rounded out the IU East golfers with a 90.
"Sophia played outstanding today," head coach Billy Mullin said. "I really liked the way she competed out there and she gained a lot of confidence off the tee today. Today was also Lainey's collegiate career low. She is definitely trending in the right direction. Collectively we just got to be sharper and minimize penalty shots. Being down 13 shots is going to be a steep challenge to come back from tomorrow, but I fully expect us to improve on Day 2."
