Red Wolves Finish Sixth at LTU Spring Break Invitational

OPELIKA, Ala. - The Indiana University East women's golf team finished sixth in the Lawrence Technological University Spring Break Invitational on Friday, March 8.

The two-day event at the Grand National Golf Club Lake Course featured 10 teams with three nationally ranked squads.

Lainey Jackson topped the Red Wolves on the final day.

"I shot an 81 with a 39 on the back nine after a 42 on the front," Jackson said. "My irons and wedges were the best today. They gave me many opportunities for up and downs and birdie putts."

"My driver was on and off today, but I recovered well," Jackson continued. "My putting could also improve, but as a team I think we fought well today and I am proud of the girls for working through a long day on the course."

Jackson was 19th overall with an 83-81-164 as Brooklynn Cromwell was 22nd with 81-84-165. Next were Katie Craig 84-84-168 and Liv Sanders 80-88-168 who tied for 25th.

The other scores for IU East were Jalyn Bruns (87-86-173, 34th), Sophia Curry (92-82-174, 36th), Ashlynne Osborne (119-101-220, 57th) and Baylee Wissler withdrew.

No. 17 Loyola University New Orleans won the 11-team event with a two-day total of 612, while No. 14 Indiana Wesleyan University was second at 648. Freed Hardeman University (650) was third with No. 25 University of Tennessee Southern and Lawrence Tech ending tied for fourth at 651.

The Red Wolves posted a score of 328-331-659.

"It was a very comfortable day, but quite breezy out there," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "Lainey played really strong today."

"I was happy to see Sophia and Ashlynne bounce back after a difficult first day," Mullin added. "We will get better around the greens as we go through the spring. Overall I'm pleased with our performance this week on a tough course against a strong field."

The Red Wolves return to action in the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout in Johnson City on Tuesday, April 2.
