Cross Country: IU East Wins Team Title at NAIA Marathon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For the second straight year, the Indiana University East cross country program was represented at the NAIA Marathon Championships on Sunday, Dec. 8.

It turned out to be a historic day for the Red Wolves as they won the men's NAIA Team Championship with Mylan Nocton earning his second All-American honor of the fall.

Mylan Nocton was fourth with a time of 2:27.23 over the 26.2-mile course. He was also an All-American in cross country this season finishing 35th at the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 22.

Richard Bower was next for IU East as he posted a time of 2:31.00 to finish ninth. Cameron Nocton was 10th in 2:31.54, while Axton Fosnaugh finished 13th in 2:33.42. 

Makenzee Kahn was the top performer for the women's team with a 3:36.31, which put her in 37th. Evelyn Hasenour was 39th in 3:38.43 as Savanna Smith finished 43rd in 3:43.13.

The event was part of the California International Marathon, which had 8,086 competitors.

The starting point was near Folsom Lake, which is east of Sacramento with the finish line close to the California State Capitol Building.

Cumberland University's Kennedy Bett grabbed the top spot in the men's NAIA field with a time of 2:21.36. Alauna Carstens of Evergreen State College in Washington won the NAIA women's race with a time of 2:47.07.

Last season, IU East's Grace Carter ran a time of 3:40:08 to finish 25th in the inaugural event for the NAIA.
