Red Wolves Make Presence Known in NAIA Great Lakes Challenge
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The IU East men's and women's cross country teams made their presence known after a successful meet in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Saturday.
The men finished 10th out of 26 and the women finished 18th of 22.
On the women's side, they finished better than their RSC counterparts. Cassandra Schrubb was first for the Red Wolves finishing 27th overall with a time of 19:13.10 in the 5K. That time is the 2nd fastest in school history. Makenzee Kahn finished second in 88th after crossing the line at 20:19.3. Chloe Scales (91st, 20:24.7), Evelyn Hasenour (112th, 20:45.7), and Julia Arruda (121st, 20:53.9) finished the top five for IU East. Finishing out the runners for the women were Brooklyn Miras (144th, 21:19.8), Abby Page (153rd, 21:34.0), Maddy Wolf (154th, 21:38.9), and Sarah Kwiatowski (156th, 21:40.9).
As a team, the Red Wolves finished ahead of fellow RSC foes Point Park, IU Kokomo, and Shawnee State.
The men's team defeated many NAIA Top 25 teams. IU East scored better than Carroll (ranked 16th), Olivet Nazarene (18th), Marian (RV), and UC Merced (RV), all whom are ranked higher than the Red Wolves in the latest Top 25 rankings. IU East also tied Aquinas in points who is ranked 12th.
They finished with 271 points, one point shy of Rocky Mountain (RV), two points shy of Montana Tech (17th), and three points shy of Shawnee State (11th).
Mylan Nocton was first for IU East finishing in 15th place and a time of 25:09.60 in the 8K, which broke his own school record. Tucker Burris was next in 35th place after running the course in 25:31.10. Cameron Nocton (73rd, 25:58.8), Teagen Rodriguez (75th, 26:02.6), and Richard Bower (82nd, 26:12.1) rounded out the top five. Wyatt Beck (123rd, 26:45.1), Braden Coate (130th, 26:47.1), Kyle Stanley (133rd, 26:50.3), and Ian Davis (176th, 27:32.2) finished the runners for the Red Wolves.
Both teams will have two weeks off before the RSC Championships held at the Falling Springs Recreational Center in Versailles, KY on Nov. 4.
