IU East Tennis Finishes Weekend at RSC Preview

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The men's and women's tennis teams headed down south to play in the 2023 RSC Fall Invite on Friday and Saturday.

 

Men's Results:

Francisco Faundez made it to the final match of the No. 1 Singles division. He defeated Connor Mason of IU Southeast in the first round 6-2, 6-3 before going the distance against Wilco Ciliers in the semifinal match 0-6, 7-5, 11-9. He lost against Juanes Pinto from Oakland City 6-7 (4), 6-4 10-6.

 

Sebastian Torrealba was also in the No. 1 Singles division. He lost his first-round match against Ciliers 6-4, 6-1. He defeated Adryan Taylor in the lower bracket 2-6, 6-1, 10-8. He lost his last match on Saturday by default.

 

Matthew Nel dropped the first match of his No. 2 Singles 7-5, 6-2. He later fell 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 in his last match.

 

Kyle Hollingsworth won his first match in the No. 3 Singles division 2-6, 7-5, 10-5. But he dropped his next match 6-3, 6-4.

 

Jaden Hollingsworth lost his first-round matchup in No. 4 Singles 6-1, 6-4. He later won 6-1, 6-4 in the lower bracket but lost 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation final.

 

Clay Conner won the consolation bracket in the No. 5 Singles. He lost the opening round 6-2, 6-2 but later won 6-1, 6-1 in the semis and 0-6, 7-5, 11-9 in the final.

 

Bryce Wennen was also in the No. 5 Singles division. He lost the first two matches he had but won the seventh-place match 6-1, 6-1.

 

Jace Wilkerson fell in his first match in the No. 6 Singles division. He advanced to the consolation final but fell 6-2, 6-0. Jose Calderon was also in the division but dropped 6-1, 6-0 in the first match. Wilkerson defeated him in the semis of the consolation side.

 

Bryson Hale also dropped his first match in the No. 6 Singles division 6-0. 6-1. He then fell in his next match.

 

Doubles:

Faundez and Torrealba were the lone representatives in the No. 1 Doubles for IU East. They dropped their first match but later won the consolation side of the bracket by beating Cristaldo/Marino 6-3.

 

Nel and Kyle Hollingsworth won their first No. 2 Doubles match 6-2. They lost in the semis but won the third-place match 6-3.

 

Wilkerson and Calderon dropped their first match of the No. 3 Doubles division 6-0. They dropped their next match 6-2 in the semis of the consolation side of the bracket.

 

Women's Results:

Amonette Theron lost her first match in the No. 1 Singles division 6-4, 6-3. She then lost her next match in the consolation final 6-2, 6-1.

 

Eva Caballero won the third place match 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 after she retired in the opening match.

 

Linda Marino captured the No. 2 Singles title. She won 6-4, 6-4 in the opening set before going the distance in the semis, winning 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. She defeated Isabela Todorovic in the finals 6-3, 6-4.

 

Brooke Schafstall lost her first match in No. 2 Singles 6-2, 6-2. In the consolation final, she fell 6-1, 6-0.

 

Gracie Helms, in the No. 3 Singles division, lost her first match 6-1, 6-0. She won her next match 6-1, 7-5 in the semis of the consolation bracket but lost in the finals 6-3, 6-1.

 

Laura Billing lost her first match in No. 3 Singles 6-0. 6-1. She would later drop her seventh place match 6-2, 6-2.

 

Alyssa Hollingsworth won her first match in No. 4 Singles 6-2, 6-4. She fell in the semis before dropping the third place match 6-4, 6-1.

 

Doubles Round Robin:

Caballero and Marino went 2-1 in round-robin play. They won 6-2 in their first match before winning 6-4 in the second match. Their only loss was against IU Southeast 6-2.

 

Theron and Billing dropped their first two matches of the round-robin 6-3. They later defeated IU Southeast 6-1 in the third match.

 

Ellis and Hollingsworth went 2-1. They defeated IU Southeast 6-3 and Oakland City 6-1.

 

The Red Wolves will be back on the court next Saturday against Miami Middletown.
