Men's and Women's Tennis Compete in PTR Tennis Fest
HILTON HEAD, SC. – The IU East men's and women's tennis teams ditched the cold during spring break and went to play in the Professional Tennis Registry Spring Tennis Fest.
Both teams just played two matches.
The men's team fell 4-3 on Monday against West Virginia State University before falling 9-0 to Asbury.
Against West Virginia State, the Yellow Jackets grabbed the first point clinching all doubles matches. Francisco Faundez won his No. 1 Singles match 7-6, 3-6, 10-8. Sebastian Torrealba won his No. 2 Singles match 7-6, 6-4. Matthew Nel won his No. 3 Singles match 6-4, 7-5 for the third Red Wolf point.
The women's team fell 4-3 to Georgetown College on Monday before dropping their final match of the trip 5-2 against St. Francis (PA).
Against Georgetown, the Red Wolves dropped a point in the early going in doubles. But in singles play, they copied the men's team, winning the top 3 singles.
Linda Marino won her No. 1 Singles match in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. Eva Caballero won 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 Singles spot. Amonette Theron scored the last point against Georgetown in No. 3 Singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Marino and Cabellero grabbed a point in the match against St. Francis. Marino won 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 Singles and Cabellero won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 Singles.
