Men's Soccer: IU East 3, IU Columbus 1

COLUMBUS, Ind. - A pair of penalty kicks in the second half made the difference for the Indiana University East men's soccer team as the Red Wolves defeated IU Columbus 3-1 on Saturday Oct. 12.

The Red Wolves are 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the River States Conference, while IU Columbus is 4-8-2, 0-4-1.

With the score tied at 1-1 after the opening period at the Richard J. Wigh Soccer Center, Noah Backhaus converted the penalty kicks at 62:19 and 66:48.

In the first half, Bawi Ting scored with an assist from Backhaus at the 6:10 mark to give the Red Wolves the lead. The Crimson Pride tied the affair at 26:30 to set the stage for the winning goals.

Peter Lamprou had two saves in goal for IU East.

IU East returns to action against the University of Cincinnati Clermont on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The contest at Centerville High School starts at 6 p.m.
