Men's Soccer: IU East 1, Pikeville 0
RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's soccer team won its second contest of the season as the Red Wolves defeated the University of Pikeville 1-0 on Monday, Sept. 2.
“We had a great response from the team today after a really poor, uncharacteristic performance on Friday,” IU East coach Dalton Clement said. “It took a team effort to go on the road again and be focused for an early kick off.”
The Red Wolves are now 2-1, while the Bears fall to 1-3.
Hoi Lian gave the Red Wolves the lead when he scored at the 40:18 mark of the opening half with an assist from Tristan Thomas.
It was Lian's first goal of the season and fourth in his career with the Red Wolves. Thomas leads IU East in scoring this season with a pair of goals and two assists.
“I’m really proud of the way we saw the last twenty minutes,” Clement said. “Sometimes you must absorb the pressure and hunker down. We did so and got the three points.
Goalkeeper Peter Lamprou stopped six Pikeville shots for IU East to record his second shutout of the season.
IU East plays its first home contest of the fall at Centerville High School against Concordia University on Saturday, Sept. 7. The match gets underway at 1 p.m.
“We’ll have good training this week, go through the film, and start looking ahead towards Concordia,” Clement said.
