IU East Wins Season Opener
UPLAND, Ind. - Three goals in the first half propelled the Indiana University East men's soccer team to a 3-0 season-opening victory over Taylor University on Saturday, Aug. 24.
"A solid team win today," said Dalton Clement, who is in his first year as IU East's head coach. "I thought the combination of our experienced players and newcomers was exactly what we're looking to build on."
"We've been talking all week about efficiency to goal, defending in good shape and doing it together for 90 minutes," Clement said. "I thought it was a strong start on our year. As much as we enjoy the win, objective 1B was keeping a clean sheet also and the team worked hard to do so."
Keylin Hyman had a score assisted by Tristan Thomas at the 28-45 mark of the first period to give the Red Wolves the lead in Turner Stadium.
Thomas picked up the next goal for IU East with an assist from Lennard Lafontaine at 34:50.
Brody McKinney picked up what turned out to be the final tally for the Red Wolves with an assist from Zion Griffis 43:27.
Goalkeeper Peter Lamprou had four saves for IU East.
IU East (1-0) returns to action in Michigan against Grand Lakes Christian College on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The contest gets underway at 3 p.m. Taylor is 2-1.
"Credit to Taylor, they maintained a lot of possession and chances, challenging us defensively and fortunately we answered the bell each time," Clement said. "Now we take 24 hours to enjoy it and then look forward to Great Lakes CC."
