Red Wolves in Good Position Heading into the Final Round at LTU Collegiate Kickoff

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. - A 12-shot improvement between the first and second rounds has the Indiana University East men's golf team in third place at the Lawrence Tech University Collegiate Kickoff at the Crystal Mountain Resort on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The Red Wolves have a team score of 320-308-628 as they trail the No. 23 host Blue Devils (304-311-615) and Lake Superior State University (311-314-625).

"We got off to a slow start as a whole today and that affected our first-round score," IU East's Sam Firebaugh said. "But I think everyone settled down in round two. We shot the best score out of all the teams in windier conditions, which I think shows that everyone cleared their heads and played well."

On the individual leaderboard, Firebaugh is second with a 75-72-147 after 36 holes on the Betsie Valley Golf Course. Lawrence Tech's Liam McEvoy is on top with a 69-71-140.

"I played well in my two rounds," Firebaugh said. "The first round I struggled a bit on the second nine and couldn't get putts to fall, but I regrouped nicely and played a consistent and solid second round to put myself in a good position."

The other scores for the Red Wolves were Ethan Sunsdahl 82-78-160 (T17th), Austin Shelley 86-78-164 (T30), Riley Bratton 77-88-165 (T36), Dillon Letendre 87-80-167 (T44) and Braden Tedder 84-90-174 (54th).

Wednesday's final round is on the Mountain Ridge Golf Course with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
