Men's Basketball: Shawnee State 78, IU East 74

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Indiana University East men’s basketball team came up short on the road 78-74 against Shawnee State University on Saturday, Feb. 15.

This was a crucial River States Conference East division game which saw the Red Wolves who were tied for first and Shawnee who was sitting in second place.

With the loss IU East falls to 15-11 overall and 9-5 in conference, while Shawnee State improves to 14-12 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

The Red Wolves struggled from the start in the first half of the game, getting outscored 10-0 in the first four minutes of the game and trailed by as many as 15 points twice in the first half. But late in the first half, IU East went on a 13-4 run that helped trim the Bears lead to just four points at 35-31 heading into halftime.

The Red Wolves started the second half much as they did the first finding themselves down by as many as 11 points, but Antuane Allen did his part to keep the Red Wolves within striking

distance. The Bears made free throws down the stretch to help secure the victory.

The Red Wolves had a pair of players in double figures with Allen scoring a game-high 28 points, while Tobey Billups chipped in 14. The Bears had four players in double figures and were led by Tre Beard with 18 points.

The Red Wolves return home on Tuesday, Feb. 18 for their final home game of the regular season as they play host to WVU Tech with a 5:30 pm tipoff.
