RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team dropped an 87-79 overtime decision to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Saturday, Dec. 2.
IU East is now 3-5 overall with a 1-1 mark in the River States Conference. The Pomeroys are 5-3, 1-0.
Colt Meyer led the Red Wolves with 21 points in the contest on Lingle Court, while Jake Johnson finshed with 20.
Chad Cox and Ibra Athie added 12 points apiece. Athie also had game-high totals of 16 rebounds and seven assists.
Cobie Barnes topped SMWC with 32 points, while grabbing a dozen rebounds.
A pair of dunks by Cox gave the Red Wolves an emotional boost as they began the game with a 7-0 margin, but the Pomeroys eventually went on top 17-16 with 7:57 left in the opening period. SMWC finished the first half with a 36-30 advantage.
In the second half, the Pomeroys built a 40-31 lead before the Red Wolves rallied to tie it at 42-42 on a jam by Johnson at 15:36.
SMWC answered on the way to 62-50 lead, but the Red Wolves responded. Meyer's basket at 4:42 put IU East in from 67-66.
The game was tight the rest of the regulation as Athie's basket at the buzzer sent the teams into the extra session at 75-75.
During the overtime the teams were tied at 79-79 before the Pomeroys scored the last eight points for the victory.
The Red Wolves return to action at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, Dec. 9. The non-conference affair gets underway at 1 p.m.
