Men's Basketball: Cumberlands 83, IU East 76

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team opened its weekend at "The Show" with a 83-76 loss to the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Red Wolves are 2-3 heading into Sunday's contest against Ave Maria University in the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center at 11 a.m. Ave Maria (7-0) defeated the University of Pikeville 85-68 on Saturday.

Cumberlands remains unbeaten at 9-0.

IU East had four players in double figures with Ibra Athie leading the way 17 points as he also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Colt Meyer finished with 16 points as Jake Johnson added 15. Devon Woods tossed in 10 points.

After a 9-8 lead early in the affair, the Red Wolves fell behind in the first half 31-19 before a rally over the last six minutes closed the cap to 42-41 at the intermission.

In the second half, IU East led 74-73 with 2:48 left on the clock as Woods hit a jumper.

The Patriots answered with a 10-2 run the rest of the way to earn the victory.

DJ Jones had 24 points to lead the Patriots as Jonathan Brown contributed 22 points.
