RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team battled back, but the Red Wolves fell 80-78 Washington Adventist University on Sunday, Nov. 19.
IU East is now 2-2, while Washington Adventist upped its season mark to 5-5.
A 9-3 run at the end of the first half allowed the Shock to hold a 31-24 advantage at the intermission.
In the second period, the Red Wolves trailed 56-41 with 12:12 left before they were able to cut their deficit at the end of the contest on Lingle Court.
Colt Meyer drilled a 3-pointer with nine seconds left as the Red Wolves got close at 79-78.
After Lee James hit one of two free throws with 5.7 seconds remaining on the clock for Washington Adventist, IU East's Jake Johnson missed a highly contested 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Meyer led the Red Wolves with 30 points. It was the seventh time in his career that he reached the 30-point plateau.
Johnson finished with 13 points for IU East as Ibra Athie added 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Next up for the Red Wolves is the annual visit to "The Show" in Kingsport, Tenn.
IU East's opener is against the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, Nov. 25.
