Men's Basketball: IU East 77, Goshen 69

GOSHEN, Ind. – Ibra Athie scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off the bench and the Red Wolves went on a 16-5 run in the final nine minutes to finish off a 77-69 win over Goshen on Saturday.  The win gives IU East a 2-1 record on the year, winning the last two.  

Kobe Ward scored the first point for the Red Wolves two minutes into the game. A minute later Tobey Billups scored the first field goal to give IU East a 3-1 lead.  But Goshen led most of the first half, including at the end of the first 20 minutes with a 37-36 advantage.  

In the second half, Athie gave the Red Wolves their first lead since late in the first half. His jumper gave IUE a 45-44 lead.  

Trailing 64-61 with 8:31 remaining, Sekou Maiga’s jumper kickstarted the run. Athie followed with a jumper of his own from a pass by Colt Meyer as the Red Wolves took a 65-64 lead. Maiga added another jumper for a 67-64 lead that made Goshen call a timeout. 

The Red Wolves held the Maple Leafs scoreless for the last 2:57.  

IU East will be back home on Sunday Nov. 19 as they host Washington Adventist at 1 p.m.
