Men's Basketball IU East 84, Goshen 72

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team defeated Goshen College 84-72 in front of a large crowd for the the home opener for the Red Wolves on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

"Our fans were great tonight," said IU East guard Jamisen Smith, who led the Red Wolves with 22 points. "I was happy to see everybody out there. They brought us the energy."

IU East is now 2-0 after the non-conference contest on Lingle Court, while the Maple Leafs fall to 1-3.

With intensity as the theme for the affair, both teams battled throughout the game before the Red Wolves took the lead for good at 59-58 on a Sekou Maiga layup with 6:59 remaining.

"When we had the 12-minute media timeout, we came together and talked about how we were going to get the job done," Smith said. "We got stops defensively and we knew we were going to be able to score."

The Red Wolves outscored the Maple Leafs 25-14 the rest of the way after Maiga's basket.

Following Smith in scoring were Bryce Long with 19, Jake Johnson with 18 and Maiga with 10.

Long, Maiga and Kobe Ward led IU East with six rebounds each. Tobey Billups handed out a dozen assists.

The Red Wolves return to the road this weekend at the Northwestern College Classic in Iowa on Nov. 11-12. IU East plays Northwestern on Friday at 7 p.m.
