Cromwell, Sanders Finish First and Second in IU East Fall Invite

RICHMOND, Ind. – Brooklyn Cromwell beat out teammate Liv Sanders by two strokes in the IU East Fall Invitational on Saturday.

Cromwell shot a 77 on Friday then a 79 on Saturday to claim the top finishing spot. Sanders carded an 80 in the first round and 78 in Round 2.

"I was struggling today with my irons and getting putts to drop," Cromwell said. "I had to grind the last few holes and managed to grab three birdies, but still had two penalty and two doubles that hurt my right off from the start. I have a few things I need to get after this week to get me where I know I am at. We had a good field of players and an awesome turn out for spectators. We had three players finish in the Top 6 and we won so I would call it a good turn out for the Lady Red Wolves."

Sanders added, "We all put it together today when we needed it the most. Three scores in the 70s is a pretty good day. My driver was a little funky but short game kept me in it all weekend. If we keep this same momentum going into next week we will do just fine."

The Red Wolves also claimed the win as a team, beating St. Mary of the Woods by 12.

Katie Craig finished third for IU East. Her 83, 79 was good for fifth overall. Sophia Curry was next with an 84, 80 and Josalyn Lewis rounded out the first team for the Red Wolves with an 81, 89. Jayln Bruns shot back-to-back 85s. Lainey Jackson also shot duplicates of 87s. Ashlynne Osborne (103, 88), Baylee Wissler (95, 99), Gracie Williams (94, 106) finished IU East's B team.

"Wonderful effort both days by our ladies," head coach Billy Mullin said. "Our girls are winners! Brooklynn Cromwell is playing like a senior in her last go around. Brooklyn and Liv both birdied holes 17 and 18 to finish their rounds and Katie Craig birdied her last hole to shoot 79. I'm very happy for Ashlynne Osborne shooting her career low 88 today, which she didn't even do that in high school. I like how freshman Sophia Curry bounced back today. We got a long way to go, but these Wolves got some moxie about them."

The Red Wolves will travel to St. Mary of the Woods this weekend at Idle Creek Golf Course.
